Steroid Fever

Well tonight was the last dose of my Steroids. And let me tell you these things give me a fever! I have been eating ice cream several times a day to cool down my internal body temp, even with the Cooling Neck wraps. I suppose there could be worse things.

Unfortunately, for me there are worse things since the start of the Roids. My spasms are much worse, I'm in god awful pain, I can barely walk as of tonight and tomorrow I see no way around telling my Boss what is wrong with me as I doubt I will make it to work. Not in this much pain. Why exactly do Steroids actually make you feel worse before better? Like much worse. I don't get it. Can anyone explain that to me?

The heat here is still in the high 90's low 100's and I see no break in sight. I don't want this to become Summer 2008 again, but I think it is...which means I am going to be out of commission for awhile and I am praying my work will work something out with me that I can work from home as commuting won't be an immediate option. Can't really afford to loose my income right now as we are just getting back on our feet.

The good news is my bladder has calmed down. That's it. That's all I got for good news.

Hey Lanette - hope the good part of the roids starts to shine through sooner rather than later.

Could you not just tell your boss yr having a 'bad reaction' to the meds you've been prescribed ie just enough truth with out necessarily needing to mention the whole shebang?

take care - and here's hoping the ice cream is at least of the megascrumpious variety

Hi Lanette, Steroids speed everything up and is like a lot of adrenalin. They can cause anxiety, being short, time perception alteration. You have a hard time sleeping and if you do, not well. Be open with doctor if you need anti anxiety meds. My neuro people suggested tonic water (I do generic diet)for the quinine to relax spasms without sedation. I drink up to half a liter a day. Keep cool. Check for fever. If you have one, you can be more susceptible to infection. Rest as much as you can. Steroids can make you feel superhuman but do not succumb. Don't do the housework at 3 am. Put your feet up and healed those plaques. Am I telling you what to do?? Just hoping to help you through. I am sorry about the damn heat. Hope for a break for you.Mary

The heat has been horrible! I hope you're feeling better. Hopefully in a month it won't be 100 degrees anymore! I hope the steroids catch up to you soon.

lanette, best of luck with all of this! &, yeah, it does suck that the steroids take a week or so to fully take effect!
