Can you tell when a flare ends? I am experiencing my first real bad flare and I feel like I am getting better or the meds are finally working. I still can't walk far. But I don't have to use my cane this past week. I still get leg pains and weakness, but, I've had more good days than bad this week. I feel like I am healing, but, according to my new Neuro - Once you get spasms in your legs & bladder from MS you'll always have them. Okay, so I will always have them, but, can they be controlled with these meds (Neurontin, Vesicare and Baclofen) to the point I can strengthen my legs and actually exercise?
Right now I still get times my legs feel like Jello, so, I wonder if exercising them is the right thing to do. They are weak, he even said so when I saw him last Monday. And Stiff. He told me to get more limber. Well getting limber is difficult to do when you can't walk very far. I can still stretch and do yoga - but how do I get stronger?
He also wants me to start Rebif which has proven more beneficial for spinal MS...lovely....
I will get the report from the MRI I had on Thursday this week. I've seen the CD - there are lesions...lesions in my spine...yeah, that's not good I have a feeling...
***The exciting news is my Philadelphia Eagles play Dallas on Monday Night Football this week!***

My flares always started with a bang and ended with a whimper. It was a gradual improvement in things, and they all lasted a few months.
As far as exercise, I've always been told that I won't cause any damage if I exercise, and have been encouraged to continue doing it to maintain muscle tone so that I can still use my legs when the flare is over. Easier said than done.
Hang in there!!!
This is my first flare, and it starte July 29th, and its stiller here! UGH!
I find it very interesting that yu Neuro doc says once the spasms always the spasms, cuz mine keeps telling me they MAY go away in time. He keeps telling me to go back to work as a dental hygienist, and I'm not comfortable with that. NO feeling in my right hand, and I'm right-handed, means possible injury to the patient. Maybe I need a new doc!
I've added you to my blog list and will stop by often.
Take care,
Abby
MS symptoms will come and go. And the only thing that stays the same is that those symptoms are different for everybody. Some symptoms will stay forever, but it's an individual thing.
10 years after my initial exacerbation I still have occasional tremors in my right hand. I don't shake like a Mexican jumping bean anymore but I do sometimes have tremors.
Continue to exercise to your comfort level and consider safety as well. Perhaps swimming would be better than jogging right now.

Hi Lanette--
Thanks for the comment on my site. I'm gonna take a look here, but first I want to say what pretty colors! I like to see new color arrangements on people's homepages. Yes, I'm a big dork.
